HOWTO Sort Start Menu Items by Name

When you install new software or manually reorder items on the Start menu, it is no longer alphabetized by Windows. To keep the programs on your start menu sorted in alphabetical order, here’s what to do:

  1. Click Start -> Programs
  2. Mouseover an item on the Programs list
  3. Right-click or hit the context menu button (or Shift+F10)
  4. Select “Sort by Name” on the context menu that appears

I had never heard of the Shift+F10 keystroke for right-clicking. Could be handy if a meteor fragments into two pieces while entering the atmosphere and destroys both the right mouse button and the context menu key.

    Wrong! This will sort ONLY the programs and NOT the start menu!
